As the curtain comes down on our playing season many clubs post AGM will turn their attention to planning for 2025. One area that should be on every clubs plan is referee development.
Now is the time to identify club members to train up as Go Games referees ahead of the new playing season.
Traditionally clubs look to their teenage membership to recruit Go Games referees which is perfectly fine however another option often not considered - Parents of Go Games Players!
Parents at this age group attend most games; some might not feel confident to offer their services as a manager or team coach especially those new to the sport of GAA. However they may consider stepping up to help out by refereeing at this age group.
How to train up as a Go Games referee:
This course is now available online and it takes approximately one hour to complete. This self-paced Go Games Referee Course is designed and aimed for those who wish to referee non-competitive Go Games from U7 to U11 and including any U12 non-competitive leagues within Gaelic Games.
Objectives:
Outline the roles and responsibilities of referees.
Assist referees with understanding the rules of our games of Gaelic football, Ladies football, hurling and camogie.
Develop the fundamental skills of refereeing.
Illustrate the Go Games philosophy and ethos.
Participants (15years +) will need to set up an account on the GAA learning portal Tobar and then click on the link (see below) to access the Go Games referees course.

Reminder everyone involved with children including referees must hold valid Garda and Safeguarding certificates.
