Hi everyone! I’m Ciara Crotty, and this summer I’m heading to Jinja, Uganda to support an exciting sports-development initiative focused on growing GAA and expanding access to sport for young people—especially girls.
Like many of you, I was raised playing for FoxCab- how lucky is that! Playing for FoxCab added so much to my life and in many ways, it has made me the person I am today. Through this project, I am honoured to be given the opportunity to contribute to someone else’s life in this way too.

I’ll be working with the Simba Wolfhounds GAA club (in Uganda) in collaboration with UCD Volunteers Overseas (UCDVO), the UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Sports Science, the Irish Society in Uganda, as well as visiting local schools in Jinja, Kakira and Mbale. Together, we’re running GAA training sessions, sports days, and outreach activities that use sport as a tool for empowerment, education, and well-being.
The Simba Wolfhounds are building something really special—creating opportunities for children to experience team sport, stay active, build confidence, and feel included. Many of these young people have never had access to structured coaching or the chance to participate in organised sport.

I am looking for donations of pre-loved football boots, shorts, or sports bras you might be able to offer. *** There will be a collection point at the Academy (9.45am on the Juvenile pitch) each Saturday in June ***. These garments will be given to the young people we meet. I’m also fundraising to support the development of the Simba Wolfhounds club, so they can continue this incredible work.
