Dear members,

Foxrock Cabinteely Ladies Gaelic Football Club has been canvassing with Cabinteely GAA for the upgrade of the senior pitch for many years. The pitch in its current state suffers from subsidence, drainage issues and does not comply with minimum pitch dimensions. Furthermore, the club currently experiences a great shortage of playing space.

We are pleased to share that after considerable engagement with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLRCC), significant upgrade works will start at the end of this month to our senior pitch. In addition, we have also secured access to a new, second venue to stage games at Ticknick Park, Cherrywood to meet our needs as the club grows into the future.

A new upgraded pitch will result in the club obtaining its own high quality, floodlit pitch facility at Kilbogget Park, enabling extended use of the pitch during winter evenings and after rain. Your Executive Committee has been in regular discussions with Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to ensure that the new senior pitch will be a significant upgrade on its existing condition and also that the facilities available in Ticknick Park are fit-for-purpose.

The Foxrock Cabinteely Executive Committee and our facilities sub-committee have invested significant time into this exciting project to ensure that the best interests of the club are being met both in the short and longer term. We are certain that the changes will significantly benefit our club as we grow into the future and ask for your patience during this transition.

What is happening to the senior pitch at Kiboggett?

The upgrade works will be on the senior pitch which is near the clubhouse and parking. The juvenile pitches in the park are unaffected. The upgrade will include the installation of a new sub-pitch drainage system, new natural grass surface and the addition of floodlights. The pitch will also be extended to meet the pitch dimensions for adult football.

When is it happening and for how long will the upgrade work take?

Work is expected to start at the end of this month (April 2023). The new grass for the pitch is expected to be sown at the end of August. The grass needs considerable time to grow and bed in. It is planned that the upgraded senior pitch will be ready for action and playable again in September next year. These timelines are dependent on the grass growth and weather conditions.

Where will club activities be accommodated during the upgrade works?

Foxrock Cabinteely will retain the use of the existing juvenile pitches in Kilbogget Park as well as the newly acquired Coolevin juvenile pitch in Kilbogget Park. Storage facilities will soon be located at the Coolevin pitch to make it more user friendly.

In addition, we have full use of a new senior pitch in Ticknick Park, Cherrywood.

About Ticknick Park

Your Executive Committee has inspected the facilities at Ticknick Park on a number of occasions and are satisfied that it is fit for our purpose.

Ticknick Park is a newly constructed public park at Cherrywood. It contains a senior pitch, juvenile pitch and a dressing room pavilion building. The pitch is accessible by a 10 minute walk from the carpark

Further details available here.

We are certain that the changes will significantly benefit our club as we grow into the future and thank you for your patience during this transition.

Kind regards,

Your Executive Committee
